Fields of Gold

Yesterday, was my third day in Copenhagen. It consisted of retrieving my luggage (YAY!), touring the Carlsberg factory, and enjoying a lovely meal with friends. Oh yes, and lots more biking:) There is nothing better than a day that is not overly stuffed with must-dos. I’m glad I’ve realized early on in my trip that you just need some days that you take it easy. I cannot wait to return to Copenhagen for the end of my two weeks.

Today I started my solo journey through Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. From Copenhagen to Berlin I took a train to ferry to train to train to S-Bahn (phew!) and somehow managed to find my hostel without getting lost– my win for the day! I have always enjoyed traveling by train. I did it many times to and from school and always found it a great time to relax and enjoy the journey. Well, all those times do not compare with today. The German countryside was breathtaking. The fields were filled with rapeseed and distant towns dotted the stormy skyscape. The contrast of the vibrant, yellow fields and the skies was a sight I’ll never forget.

I am relieved my journey to my second city was smoother than to my first. I am looking forward to my time in Berlin. My history-nerd-self is way too excited to start exploring the many museums and my I-love-food-and-drink-self cannot wait to enjoy the local fare and beer.

My biggest challenge during this time will be coming out of my shell. I’m an introvert through and through.  I knew that meeting new people was to be one of my biggest challenges, but also one  I look forward to conquering. So, here’s to stepping out of my comfort zone and enjoying all that Berlin has to offer.
